Artizen Raia~Modern Bohemian

My fashion sense is a lifestyle and philosophy that shows in what I choose to wear. In my late teens, I thought I wanted to be a model and work in the fashion industry. The valuable lessons I learned in the superficial and highly competitive world based on the outer over the inner of who and what we are as women left me somewhat jaded with self-determination to never ever allow the fashion police to dictate what I wear at every age and stage of life. Holds true for me as a 'keen ager.' A youthful ageless spirit that pays no never mind to age, just embracing life at every stage.

When embracing the modern bohemian moniker it is important to align with the ideas sure that you agree with the ideals. Laying claim to living this life with authentic self-expression. Most Bohemians are liberal. They believe in their causes (whatever they may be) with so much intensity that sometimes, it can be a bit overwhelming.

In my view, Modern Bohemians are also usually open to others. They share a lot mentally, emotionally, physically, and even sexually. Modern Bohemians are creative and believe in pushing boundaries in the world of modern art and culture. They love music and candles and poetry and in some cases can be quite obsessed with spirituality and reaching a higher plane. (Modern Bohemians can really be a part of any spiritual endeavor.  Christianity, Buddhism, Paganism, Taoism, Wicca, etc. The list goes on and on. Bohemians are free spirits, with a respect for differences whether there is an agreement or not.

Those claiming to be  Modern Bohemians back it up with shared beliefs. Be willing to challenge conventional beliefs. Bohemians have traditionally embraced uncommon world-views. Be skeptical and question authority with common sense, critical thinking, source, and fact-based claims that reflect the capacity to walk the talk from the inside out, lifestyle, dress, interests, philosophy, spirituality, artisan creative self-expression. Peace, love, oneness over otherness and isms that create polarity and divisiveness.

Develop an awareness and understanding of the bohemian past. Historically, Bohemians were associated with gypsies who were thought to come from Bohemia. Eventually, people started using the word to describe marginalized artists and musicians in Europe who were known for their untraditional stances on politics, religion, and society. Today, the meaning of the word has morphed to include individuals with a particular look and lifestyle.

Express yourself creatively on a daily basis. Work on a painting, write a song, dance an interpretive dance, relax with Yoga, Pilates, or Tai Chi, have a photoshoot, draw, scrapbook, make jewelry, crochet or knit, create films, slideshows or videos. Express verbally by writing a blog, poetry,  a play, free-lance, or write a short story or love letter. Other mediums are cooking, baking, performing at open mic night, juggle, whittle, whatever! Just be creative!

Do as you like. Boho-chic doesn't just mean flowing peasant skirts and flip-flops, and messenger bags. An important aspect of bohemian style is individuality; this means embracing your own personality and expressing it through your fashion choices. You may not know anyone who actually wears feathery layered skirts, but if you love to, then that's all that matters. Bohemian style may be described as a trend with certain looks to follow, but it's really all about following your own inspirations.

If you are a Modern Bohemian, it is doubtful that you will be wearing a three-piece suit (unless you have to for a dreaded "real" job, It is more the style of a Modern Bohemian to dress in a way that stands out from a crowd because of its sheer originality and innovation.

Handmade items, vintage items, shawls, second-hand items, crazy jewelry, hemp anything, comfy shoes... these are some of the things that make up a Modern Bohemian's wardrobe.

Accessorize. In the world of boho-chic, extreme attention is paid to details. From long and layered necklaces, berets and headscarves, belts, moccasins, cowboy boots, leggings, ballerina flats, platform shoes, and sequined vests, it's all about the small things. The difference between someone simple and someone with a bohemian sense of style is in the accessories. sequined vests, it's all about the small things. The difference between someone simple and someone with a bohemian sense of style is in the accessories.

More conservative types.  with little taste in fashion (besides preferring modern trends), might take a white oxford blouse and pair it with the obvious black pencil skirt, black patent pumps, and, if she's really daring, a red leather handbag. This is a great and classic.

A woman with a bohemian attitude would arrive at the same classic look by wearing the same blouse underneath a black 1920s style shift dress, adding black tights and ankle boots, and a hair accessory such as a red knit beret or a clustered clip of gemstones; and as far as the handbag goes, the possibilities are endless.
Study fashion-forward icons. They don't necessarily have to be bohemian embracers, but more than likely, any woman who is considered a fashion icon did not get there by following the pack.

Even someone with a more refined timeless style such as Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis set their own style.  This is essentially a bohemian outlook on style. Devour fashion magazines, and try and find what sets the girls who are considered fashionable apart from people you see every day.

Start to develop your own way of dress expression and refrain from allowing the fashion police to dictate what anyone chooses to wear. Who makes them the authority anyway and why do we diminish our fashion flames by buying into it? Boho Mojo keeps it real and wears whatever they want at every age and stage of life. If others don't approve, it is there issue to resolve.
