Artizen Raia~Modern Bohemian

My fashion sense is a lifestyle and philosophy that shows in what I choose to wear. In my late teens, I thought I wanted to be a model and work in the fashion industry. The valuable lessons I learned in the superficial and highly competitive world based on the outer over the inner of who and what we are as women left me somewhat jaded with self-determination to never ever allow the fashion police to dictate what I wear at every age and stage of life. Holds true for me as a 'keen ager.' A youthful ageless spirit that pays no never mind to age, just embracing life at every stage.

When embracing the modern bohemian moniker it is important to align with the ideas sure that you agree with the ideals. Laying claim to living this life with authentic self-expression. Most Bohemians are liberal. They believe in their causes (whatever they may be) with so much intensity that sometimes, it can be a bit overwhelming.

In my view, Modern Bohemians are also usually open to others. They share a lot mentally, emotionally, physically, and even sexually. Modern Bohemians are creative and believe in pushing boundaries in the world of modern art and culture. They love music and candles and poetry and in some cases can be quite obsessed with spirituality and reaching a higher plane. (Modern Bohemians can really be a part of any spiritual endeavor.  Christianity, Buddhism, Paganism, Taoism, Wicca, etc. The list goes on and on. Bohemians are free spirits, with a respect for differences whether there is an agreement or not.

Those claiming to be  Modern Bohemians back it up with shared beliefs. Be willing to challenge conventional beliefs. Bohemians have traditionally embraced uncommon world-views. Be skeptical and question authority with common sense, critical thinking, source, and fact-based claims that reflect the capacity to walk the talk from the inside out, lifestyle, dress, interests, philosophy, spirituality, artisan creative self-expression. Peace, love, oneness over otherness and isms that create polarity and divisiveness.

Develop an awareness and understanding of the bohemian past. Historically, Bohemians were associated with gypsies who were thought to come from Bohemia. Eventually, people started using the word to describe marginalized artists and musicians in Europe who were known for their untraditional stances on politics, religion, and society. Today, the meaning of the word has morphed to include individuals with a particular look and lifestyle.

Express yourself creatively on a daily basis. Work on a painting, write a song, dance an interpretive dance, relax with Yoga, Pilates, or Tai Chi, have a photoshoot, draw, scrapbook, make jewelry, crochet or knit, create films, slideshows or videos. Express verbally by writing a blog, poetry,  a play, free-lance, or write a short story or love letter. Other mediums are cooking, baking, performing at open mic night, juggle, whittle, whatever! Just be creative!

Do as you like. Boho-chic doesn't just mean flowing peasant skirts and flip-flops, and messenger bags. An important aspect of bohemian style is individuality; this means embracing your own personality and expressing it through your fashion choices. You may not know anyone who actually wears feathery layered skirts, but if you love to, then that's all that matters. Bohemian style may be described as a trend with certain looks to follow, but it's really all about following your own inspirations.

The best jobs for Bohemians are not 9-5 jobs, but jobs where the Bohemian has complete control. Some great jobs include:

-Crafter
-Actor or Actress
-Model
-Photographer
-Freelance Writer
-Artist
-Musician
-Street Performer
-Poet
-Dancer
-Independent Film Maker
Other times, Modern Bohemians have to get a "real" job. Some acceptable ones include:

-Music or Art Teacher in the Public School Systems
-College Professor
-DJ
-Record Store Clerk (Or Owner)
-Small Business Owner
-Yoga, Pilates, or Tai Chi Instructor
-Dance Teacher
-A job in a gallery, museum, or vintage clothing store
-Newspaper columnist
-Interior Designer
-A job at daycare or as a Nanny
-Waiter or Waitress
-Bartender
-Jobs at craft stores, flower shops, thrift stores, or organic food stores
-Jobs at head shops, hookah bars, or specialty Hippie stores

If you are a Modern Bohemian, it is doubtful that you will be wearing a three-piece suit (unless you have to for a dreaded "real" job, It is more the style of a Modern Bohemian to dress in a way that stands out from a crowd because of its sheer originality and innovation.

Handmade items, vintage items, shawls, second-hand items, crazy jewelry, hemp anything, comfy shoes... these are some of the things that make up a Modern Bohemian's wardrobe.

Accessorize. In the world of boho-chic, extreme attention is paid to details. From long and layered necklaces, berets and headscarves, belts, moccasins, cowboy boots, leggings, ballerina flats, platform shoes, and sequined vests, it's all about the small things. The difference between someone simple and someone with a bohemian sense of style is in the accessories. sequined vests, it's all about the small things. The difference between someone simple and someone with a bohemian sense of style is in the accessories.

More conservative types.  with little taste in fashion (besides preferring modern trends), might take a white oxford blouse and pair it with the obvious black pencil skirt, black patent pumps, and, if she's really daring, a red leather handbag. This is a great and classic.

A woman with a bohemian attitude would arrive at the same classic look by wearing the same blouse underneath a black 1920s style shift dress, adding black tights and ankle boots, and a hair accessory such as a red knit beret or a clustered clip of gemstones; and as far as the handbag goes, the possibilities are endless.
Study fashion-forward icons. They don't necessarily have to be bohemian embracers, but more than likely, any woman who is considered a fashion icon did not get there by following the pack.

Even someone with a more refined timeless style such as Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis set their own style.  This is essentially a bohemian outlook on style. Devour fashion magazines, and try and find what sets the girls who are considered fashionable apart from people you see every day.

Start to develop your own way of dress expression and refrain from allowing the fashion police to dictate what anyone chooses to wear. Who makes them the authority anyway and why do we diminish our fashion flames by buying into it? Boho Mojo keeps it real and wears whatever they want at every age and stage of life. If others don't approve, it is there issue to resolve.

Nature Spirit Designs~Sold

Creating art from foraged finds in the natural world goes way back from childhood when I was free to wander through the woods along the Seine River in St. Boniface, Manitoba and wild and wonder-filled weekends at my Godparents camp at Lake Laclu in Ontario.

Thankfully, my parents fostered a love and respect for everything in the natural world in an explanation about the law of predation in the animal kingdom. Within the understanding of predation in youth gave me an abiding respect for the reality that the one certainty in life is change. Somethings die for others to live, nature recycles and reuses within the elemental cycles of death, rebirth, and renewal.

Carrying that forward I am grateful hubby  David Malloy is also a nature lover. Together, we gather earth treasures along our discovery trails. What we find is then  repurposed into Artizan Raia's Nature Spirit Designs. We strive to leave a light footprint whenever we are amidst the wonder-filled joys in all of creation. Taking one thing from along the paths, we leave a gratitude offering back. Sage, sweetgrass, tobacco, something for wildlife, it honors the gifts we discover and shows our appreciation and mindful respect.

These Nature  Spirit Designs have been featured at s kiosks with the Pembina Hills Art Council Winkler, Manitoba.and donated for auctions at a local community service organization,   Each design is a one of a kind creation, always with a mix of magic and mundane. Supporters of my work enjoy having these original pieces of nature in their home for the unique aspects and the energy within them.

Our B☮H☮ ᙢ☮J☮(◕‿◕) Lifestyle

What is boho mojo living?

After we were married in 1991, my husband and best friend David Malloy and I chose to become professional partners as well as personal. My given names are Raia and Coralie.   Raia is my second name, I prefer it shorter and resonates with who and where I am today.

We are partners in life and love and together, we co-create and co-direct Change Making Communications. It is the umbrella for all our other personal and professional ventures. Together, David and I  offer a variety of personal development courses on and offline, we are writers, motivational facilitators, and artisans.  I am a strong, wise warrior woman, writer, author, blogger, social media maven, earthling artisan, and visual storyteller.

David is a computer software specialist, communicator, motivator, photographer, who enjoys working with wood, doing DIY projects in our home and gardens.  David and I are at an age where we do not "have" to work and are into the "what's next" phase. In our view, it is only "work" when one does not like what they do.  Loving what we do,  David and I continue to offer whole person facilitation in the dynamic living field for anyone expressing an interest in growth through awareness and self-accountable choice making.

From my earliest recollections, whenever adults asked what I want to be and do with my life, the response was always, "I want enough time, money and freedom to  create things and help people." According to my parents, they had trouble with that, it was too abstract and not a true goal.

As it was then, it is now, it is the life we happily lead. It is how we live,  what David and I  do whether there is an exchange of money or an exchange of energy.  We are happily childfree with our pet family.  One cat and three dogs in 2020, and they are our fur-baby pet kids.

Our way of life is that of earth care earthlings. As junkers and thrift store advocates, we re-purpose and re-use items and turn them into designs for home and yard, garden with pollinators and eco-friendly ways.

Our Celtic roots support our spiritual path as followers of the old ways, living a simple life in a small rural community in south-central Manitoba.

We both enjoy sharing a variety of interests. Among them, hiking, photography, gardening, landscaping, interior decorating, working with wood,  digital storytelling, blogs, social media on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and others.

Personal preferences in music and film include these and much more.

Favorite Films What Dreams May Come, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy, What the Bleep Do We Know Anyway, The Martian, Dragon Heart. Patch Adams, Life As a House, Thor,

Favorite Music: Lorine McKinnit. Sarah McLaughlin, Clannad, Enigma, Enya, Celtic Woman, Celine Dion, Hemi-sync brainwave, Solitudes, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre,

Favorite Books You Can Heal Your Live, Buddhism, Spiritual development, metaphysics, manifestation, healing, wholeness, essential oils, aromatherapy.

Bohemians are creative and believe in pushing boundaries in the world of modern art and culture.  My Bohemian (Boho) Artizen life is that of a free-spirited, open-minded, adventurous, eccentric, lover of life, art, music, and beauty. Mojo a metaphysical, spiritual attracting energy from within that fuels creative endeavors and manifests them.

Art is an intense mode of individualism and the journey of free-spirited self-expressive souls. Earth without artisans and their art is just “eh and meh.” My artizen experience is inspired by “in-spirit” inspiration and perspiration.

Every one of my designs come from foraging finds in the natural world that embodies the essence of their elemental and seasonal changes.   When I craft designs, there is a sense of wonderment and discovery as each piece reveals more about their weathered experiences.

The creative process begins with foraging finds in the natural world. Each design is unique. My superpower of turning wood into art involves sanding, wood etching, pyromancy, polishing, then light staining and preserving to highlight any spirit images and elemental weathering.  and essence revealed.  I add adornments of rocks, gems, crystals, fur, and feather to enhance the “in-spirit” inspiration revealed in each creation.

Whenever benefactors support, purchase or promote artisans and their creations, it validates hours of errors, experimentation, frustration, then joy and satisfaction in a finished creation. This energetic exchange creates artistry in action interconnection.

As a contributing member of the Pembina Hills Art Gallery, I strive to encourage others in their chosen medium by offering classes, nature outings, volunteering, fundraising,  facilitating classes, and donating a portion of the proceeds for my designs in support of the gallery.  I believe that individuals and groups providing support for artisans contribute to refining the art of living well.

My Writing Life

Writing and Doing What You Love

I love to write and the writer's life involves
Write, write,
Then re-write, re-write
Then edit, edit, edit
And do it one more time...
Then bless and release it.
I have a sign over my desk that says:
It only work,  whenever  you don't like it,

When David and I co-create websites, blogs and promotional material the truth in this meme hits home.  I rough draft content, then edit and rewrite it and again. Then I edited a few times and did it again.

After sending the site out for preview viewing a couple of caring friends took the content and edited and edited and edited some more. Finally, the website and content reach a point where there is a general consensus and each website  ready to launch.

Now the daunting process of editing the 35 chapters, the 500-page manuscript is having a final proof using Grammarly software and we expect to be on the home stretch for a Fall 2020 publication and release. David has been and always is my greatest encourager and champion for the release of my life story of hope and healing. I would not be able to keep on keeping on without his support and attending to the technical support, updated computer systems, and smartphones. He co-designs every website, creates and readies them for launch and maintenance and I am grateful.

Working through the final proofs and editing is a mix of relief and anticipation that the end of the long write, and re-write process on this labor of love for the release of my life story.

The title says it all...I've Been There...Testimony of Hope. The other friend is interested in doing some editing on the workbooks. So as the writer I am doing what I love!

My suggestion to other writers is always to keep writing whether you are writing to be paid or for the sheer love of it. In my view, writers write because they "have to" as a soul yearning of self-expression.

I feel fortunate to be in a position to be paid for what I love to do anyway. David and I started this group so we could share our writing experiences and goals. Seeing our words in a print or on a page and having someone acknowledge our musings is a thrill to most writers I know.

There is an innate inner drive that comes up with ideas that need to find their way in some outward form of expression but it stories, articles, poetry, journaling or writing letters or e-mails.

Even after being a paid freelance writer for over 20 years each time my work shows up in print I am as thrilled as the first time. When I go over the large binder full of previously published articles I am thankful to be paid to do what I love.

It is for that reason I will be happy to answer any questions members have about how to further their writing goals if I can. For starters I would be interested in knowing some of the following if you are up for sharing:

Where do you get your inspiration?
What types of things do you like to write about?
Does your interest lie in fiction, non-fiction, scriptwriting, songwriting, real-life stories, humor, poetry or some other venue?
Do you prefer writing shorter pieces or are you working on a novel, memoir or true story manuscript with larger content?
Has your work been published anywhere and if not would you like it to be someday?
Do you write for enjoyment alone or have you thought about marketing it?
Where do you write... on your computer with a pen and paper anywhere or anytime?
Do you have any questions about getting your work published that I might be able to help you with?

If you do, feel free to contact me at arizenraia@gmail.com

Musings of My Artizen Awakenings

Living the Raia’s Boho Mojo Arti-zen Way of life ignites my awakening spirit whispers. As a truth seeker and truth speaker, I am on a continual hunt for knowledge as a lifelong learner and student of life.   If you honestly believe in ‘Free Will’ then you understand that nothing that happens to you is by chance. In fact, there is no such thing as chance; chance is an invention of the ego. By focusing on your personal gifts and the things you enjoy most, you can move forward with more purpose.

I witness many spiritual things which areas you would say unexplainable to most. This kind of shook me and reaffirmed I am on the right path. I'm trying hard to work on myself first, reprogramming my negativity and realizing the purpose of such, but admittedly I am human and have moments where I get lost in the "ego".

The ego is constantly trying to program us with the idea that we have no control. Chose to believe the ego no longer. Everything you experience is seen through the eyes of growth can lead you to a higher level of consciousness, and this is a gift you are offering yourself and those around you.

After taking a variety of quizzes, they indicate that I have a personality aspect of an investigative personality with a social side who thrives in enterprising environments.

Investigative
Social
Enterprising

Predominantly investigative people tend to solve problems by gathering information and by relying on objective data, careful analysis, and thinking. Enterprising people know how to get people and companies moving. They take control and are not afraid to claim the money or the status that comes with it. Confident and energetic, they can be extremely persuasive in pursuit of their goals.

Those with these attributes are good salespeople and managers, but their determination also helps them outside the business world. Add some Artistic flair and you'll find actors, broadcasters and even flight attendants.

Who They Are; The ones sitting in the captain's seat: Artistic,  individualistic, critical thinkers, lawyers, sales reps, business owners, managers, and other leaders.

Values and  Beliefs;  Holding a strong belief in taking responsibility and aren't afraid to pursue their passions with conviction, dedication, and determination. Never give up or in!

How did I get these results?

The variety of tests I took to reveal the top five gifts and rankings indicate a particular calling. These indications may assist in re-imagining. reinventing and manifesting life goals.

Investigative people are observers, thinkers, and questioners. Whether learning from others or discovering on their own, they're driven by curiosity about the world around them.

Who are among them? Investigative people are observers, thinkers, and questioners. Whether learning from others or discovering on their own, they're driven by a curiosity about the world around them. That's why you'll frequently find enterprising, investigative artisans in places like labs, legal and medical offices. But you might also find them in surprising places.

Therapists, clergy members, teachers, social workers and other people working to repair and improve lives. Scientists, scholars, artists, doctors, technicians, computer wizards and other people who enjoy learning and solving problems. Investigative personalities thrive on learning and discovering new information. They're logical and analytical to the point of being skeptical.

What We  Need to Thrive:

They like to get things done, which is why they will sometimes avoid intellectual, scientific and other abstract topics, work hard and expect others to apply themselves to tasks at hand. Others see them as the center of activity, energetic, gregarious and undeniably in charge. Books, magazines, or computer equipment and frequent intellectual challenges.

Perception of others:

They can come across as distant and overly intellectual. The verbal skills are highly developed, some may struggle socially. It can sometimes seem that they're better at dealing with data than with people. Their verbal skills are highly developed, and their empathy leads to discomfort during divisive, superficial settings. Their concern for others is clear, people typically see them as friendly and caring.

Practice offering gratitude instead of judgment for the present moment and a greater sense of peace and joy will not only fill your day but also your life.
This thought came to me out of the blue about 2 or 3 years ago "one of the most powerful gifts you are given on this earth is the power of free will. It's rather odd at times when you realize and become witness to your absolute truth and connectedness to others.

Find your calling: Activity complete! Here are your results.

Artizen Raia Artsy Perspectives

Earth without artisans and their art is just “eh and meh.”

In my view, the world seems a little brighter every time I create something that was not there before. Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world experiences and the journey of free souls living it.  Nature is the best artisan and I strive to enhance the foraging finds and enhance them. The process is one akin to spirit echoes from whatever the piece has weathered in its natural elements.

Artizen Raia’s  Nature Spirit Designs are inspired through “spirit” communication from what the forage finds have experienced while in their natural settings. The word inspiration is also within the essence of each creation.

In working with each piece found in nature, I handle it with care and strive to attune to the "in-spirit" attunement coming through and revealing the weathering experienced in the elemental changes.

David and I live a Boho Mojo free-spirited simple country life and creative self-expression is fulfilling.  Writing, artsy creations, woodworking, cooking, building, gardening, repurposing, wood art designs, crafting, photography, activism, change-making communications create a fulfilling purpose-filled life.

The benefactors supporting artists and their work encourage our passion. The interest and investment in art, books, and other mediums validate hours of errors, experimentation, frustration and moments of pure joy. Owning something another creates an energetic exchange with a bit of the artist, their, heart and soul within each [oece of their art.

Artisans creating exceptional, funky, fun fantastic art is better than making no art so I continue to work my craft even if no one likes or cares about it. My hubs David Malloy and I strive to be encouragers and influencers and support art and other artisans in their chosen medium.   Consequently, a portion of the proceeds for  Raia's handcrafted Designs is donated to support the artisan way of life,  and community involvement with environmental preservation.
